Part 2 of the IELTS Speaking Test

    Part 2 of the IELTS speaking section is commonly referred to as the "Long Turn" or "Cue Card" section. This part of the speaking test focuses on your ability to speak at length on a given topic. It typically lasts for 3-4 minutes. Here's what you can expect:

Format:

Preparation (1 minute): The examiner will give your student a task card with a specific topic.

 This card will include a brief description of the topic and some key points or questions to address.

Speaking (1-2 minutes): Upon receiving the task card, your student will have one minute for preparation, allowing for note-taking and thought organization. Following this one-minute preparation period, your student is expected to address the topic for 1-2 minutes.

Sample Cue Card Topics:

1- Talk about someone who has inspired you in your life, in sports, education or career.

2- Who is this person? How do you know them? Describe their personality.

3- What does this person do that inspired you?

4- What would you like to ask this person and why?

You will have one to two minutes to talk about this topic.

You will have one minute to prepare what you are going to say.

In the student’s response, The aim is to speak for the full 1-2 minutes, providing a coherent and well- structured answer. It's essential for your student to practice speaking about various topics to prepare for Part 2 of the IELTS speaking test.

   In a nutshell, in Part 2, the "Cue Card" section, assesses your student’s speaking skills in depth. Your student talks for a period of time about a given topic, using a card with key points. Practicing various topics and making good use of the preparation time is very important in this test.
