Part 1 of the IELTS Speaking Test
The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) speaking section consists of three parts. Part 1 is the introduction and warm-up part of the speaking test. It typically lasts for 4-5 minutes and is designed to assess your student’s ability to communicate effectively in everyday, familiar situations. Here's a breakdown of what you can expect in Part
Format:
Introduction (1-2 minutes):
The examiner will introduce themselves and ask your student to do the same. Your student will be expected to provide their name, where they come from, and any other relevant information that they are comfortable sharing.
General Questions (3-4 minutes): The examiner will ask your student a series of general, everyday questions. These questions are typically related to topics such as their home, family, studies, work, hobbies, and interests.
Sample Questions
Let’s talk about your fruits and vegetables:
•Where did you grow up? (This question is irrelevant to the topic but it can be asked to break the ice.)
•What are some of your favorite fruits and why?
•Are there any fruits or vegetables that you dislike and why?
•Do you prefer to buy fruits and vegetables from a local, a market or a supermarket? Why?
•Have you ever tried any exotic fruits or vegetables and how did you find them?
•If you could grow any fruits or vegetables, what would you grow and why?
These questions were taken from a YouTube video of an IELTS mock test. The link of the video can be found below.
